Hey Reader, Just in time for the holidays… barely! Cranberry-Orange Relish, Raw Cranberry-Apple Chutney & Pickled Cranberries Three delicious recipes — but my personal favorite is the Cranberry-Orange Relish. Not only do I serve it with my holiday turkey, but I also enjoy its tangy-sweet crunch as my “dessert” most evenings. It feels nourishing for the soul and satisfies any sweet cravings that pop up. Holly’s Tip: Grab fresh cranberries while they’re in season (right now!) and stash a few bags in your freezer. 🧊 The microbes that power fermentation don’t mind the cold — they simply hibernate and wake up when you’re ready to turn those berries into something magical. 🥶 This is a short ferment (5–7 days), so if you get started right away you’ll have a jar ready by next Thanksgiving.
🎤 Podcast Listen: 40s Fitness Reset While you’re watching your cranberries work their gut-healing wonders, take a listen to my recent podcast interview with Jihanne Farrell on the 40s Fitness Reset podcast. Dr. Jihane brings a data-driven, science-backed approach to weight loss and fitness, helping listeners understand their biology at every stage of life. Don’t let the “40s” title fool you — I’m in my 60s and always find valuable nuggets in her weekly 1UP newsletter (linked below). Listen not only to the one in which I was interviewed, “Put Your Gut Health on Autopilot,” but also the one right before it: “How Fermented Foods Beat Weight-Loss Pills If You Want to Lose Belly Fat: The Gut–Fat Connection.” Both are packed with insights into gut health and the powerful role fermented foods play. One Simple Habit, a Huge Return Spending just a little time in your kitchen once or twice a month gives you access to the most effective, diverse probiotic you could possibly use — and elevates your meals to a 5-star chef experience with added umami and incredible flavor. |

Hello Reader, Do you even like sauerkraut? I didn't when I first tried it as an adult twenty-plus years ago. Growing up, sauerkraut was that nasty stuff slathered on a hot dog. No, thank you! It wasn't until my 40s, when I read that healthy traditional societies all consumed some type of fermented food, that I got the courage to try it and... convince my family to eat it. And, as we slowly added it to our diets (My eldest son, that was trying to repopulate his gut after a round of antibiotics...
